Hetalia: Historical spanking by eltitere Hetalia: Historical spanking by eltitere
My first Hetalia comic. :)

Both USA and Canada followed on their promises half-way: it's legal to spank children, but not with a switch.

As of May 2009, corporal punishment by parents is allowed, with restrictions:
USA: All 50 states and the District of Columbia permit the corporal punishment of children. However, physical abuse is not allowed.

Canada: All of the 10 provinces and three territories of Canada, allow the use of "minor corrective force," but it can only be "of a transient and trifling nature." There are also minimum and maximum age limits. The use of implements is forbidden; only the open hand can be used.

Comments appreciated :)

I gather you are into spanking. Talking of using twitches and switches, under old English common law, it was permitted to beat your wife, as long as the switch was no larger than the diameter of your thumb. Hence "RULE OF THUMB." I found this out after using this phrase and getting slapped across the face by a lesbian.

In Singapore, Caning is still used on children. One case became an international sensation in 1994, when Michael Peter Fay was caned for vandalism. In the caning room he was stripped naked. He bent over and his arms and legs were fastened to an H-shaped trestle by straps. A protective covering was placed over his kidneys. A prison official, a medical officer and the caner were the only ones present. The caner wound up and, using his full body weight, struck with the 13mm-thick rattan rod, which had been soaked overnight to prevent it from splitting. Each stroke on Fay's exposed buttocks came about half a minute apart. Anyone over age 16 can be caned there. Here is an article and a drawing of how it is done. [link] There is also a photo of the bloody effects of caning in Malaysia

When I went to school, we were paddled. The paddles looked like large ping-pong paddles. The wicked paddles had a lot of holes in them. I hate to date myself, but that was in the early 1960's. It was sometimes done in front of the class in elementary class, and in Jr. High School, at the Vice principle's office. Teachers sometimes hit you over the head with a book, or smacked you hard with a ruler, a favored weapon of choice.

My mother used a strap, but separate from that I was physically beaten almost daily (punched & kicked) from infancy through age 16.

Somethings tells me you would have been a very bad boy needing to be constantly disciplined.

This drawing is looking pretty good. The one major problem is the proportions of the boy being switched—his head is too big for his body.

Cool note: The "rule of thumb" has been severely called in to question on matters of historical accuracy. I've seen a lot of arguments on either side of this old explanation. You might want to look in to it. It's pretty interesting.

You are very correct about the Rule-of-Thumb being questionable. After I wrote that comment, I had reason to research it. It turns out that there never was such a law on the books in England. I looked it up on Wikipedia [link]

It is often claimed that the term originally referred to a law that limited the maximum thickness of a stick with which it was permissible for a man to beat his wife.[2][4] British common law before the reign of Charles II permitted a man to give his wife "moderate correction", but no "rule of thumb" (whether called by this name or not) has ever been the law in England.[8][9] Such "moderate correction" specifically excluded beatings, only allowing the husband to confine a wife to the household.[10]

However, they do give a number of other possible sources.

The woman who took offense and accosted me should not have done so in either case, simply because I obviously had no negative intent. She was probably a victim of violence, which can make you hypersensitive to the issue, and others tend to transfer anger about it to people who were not the perpetrators of that violence. I was also a victim of violence, for 15 years, but I got over it.

The thing about malevolent violence is that the violence itself ends up being the smallest part of the victimization. for example, when I was raped, the terror and pain involved was short-lived, but the effects lasted years. I was abused from infancy, and this meant growing-up in constant fear. but the worst part was where you come to expect the violence, and even worse, feel like you deserve it, like you are no good as a person.

Having said all of that I am an open-minded person about using small degrees of violence between consenting adults. It is not my cup of tee at all. I only believe it is an unhealthy thing when one of the people involved is degraded, even consensually, because I have seen the long-term effects of this, and it is very destructive.

Yeah, I'm into this sort of stuff, though I would rather be top than bottom ;)

I don't know if this makes sense, but sometimes real-world examples turn me off. I'm sure this is a problem most people that watch as many cartoons as I do, you get used to their flawless faces and perfectly proportioned bodies.

That is not to say that I cannot find real people sexy, it's just a different compartment in my brain or something.

Thanks for the criticism :)
I was looking into inking this drawing but before that I was going to improve it. I will take your suggestion in mind.

What you describe is true for most people and fantasy. For many people, there are things they find hot in fantasies they would never want to do in practice, or things they like seeing or reading about that they would never want to actually do themselves. Our imaginations are things of wonder. Too may people judge people who engage actively in fantasy, but typically it is actually a very healthy outlet. For myself, I actively work to avoid being judgmental in life. Sometimes I fail, but I thing the effort worthwhile.

I would be interested in seeing more drawing from you. You actually chose a challenging media. Drawing and telling a story with it takes more skill than say drawing a static portrait. Drawing figures is motion, in poses, and creating facial expressions to create story, are all more challenging things to do. It is good to see your interest in it.

I don't know how far into drawing you are, so i threw a bunch your way. If you have any questions feel free to ask. In cartooning, you will want to understand Perspective and how to draw simple 1 and 2 point Internal and External Perspectives for your scenes. If you are not taking drawing in a classroom setting, I can Note you a Tutorial on Drawing in Perspective. Just let me know if you should ever have an interest.
